The Mahj Report is a scoring app for casual mahjong games. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English.
Who we are

What we collect
Information you give us directly:
- Your email address, when you create an account or join our launch list.
- Your display name, if you choose to set one.
- Player names that you add to your group's roster.
- Game information — who won each hand, which bonuses applied, session dates, and any location or notes you choose to add.
- Your settings, including your scoring rules and colour choices.
Information collected automatically:
- Basic technical information such as device type, operating system version, and app version, used to diagnose problems.
- Usage information such as which features are used and when errors occur, so we can improve the app.
We do not collect your precise location, your contacts, your photos, or your payment card details.
About the player names you enter
This one deserves its own section. When you set up a group, you enter the names of the people you play with. Those people may not have accounts themselves.
Please only enter names those people would be comfortable with — first names or nicknames are plenty. Do not enter anyone's email address, phone number, or other personal details in a player name field.
If someone in your group asks to be removed, you can delete them from your roster at any time, and you can ask us to remove their information entirely by emailing us.
Why we use it
- To run the app — keeping score, calculating standings, and saving your seasons.
- To keep you signed in and restore your data on a new device.
- To send you the occasional important message about the app or your account.
- To fix bugs and understand which features people actually use.
- To tell you when the app launches, if you joined our launch list.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
We do use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Our hosting and database providers, who store your account and game data securely.
- Our website host, which processes email signups from our site.
- Apple and Google, who distribute the app and handle any purchases through their stores.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and game data for as long as your account is active, so your season history stays intact. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within [30/60/90] days, except where we are required to keep records longer.
If you joined our launch list, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
Your choices
You can, at any time:
- See and edit the information in your account through the app.
- Delete individual players, sessions, or seasons.
- Ask us for a copy of your information.
- Ask us to delete your account and everything in it.
- Unsubscribe from our emails.
To make any of these requests, email hello@themahjreport.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR, and we will honour those requests.
Children
The Mahj Report is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Families are welcome to play together, but the account holder should be an adult. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and secure, access-controlled databases. No system is perfectly secure, but the information we hold is limited by design — names and game scores, not sensitive personal data.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, let you know in the app or by email.
